Kerry and the Caravan of Lies

Christof Lehmann (nsnbc),- Amidst US accusations, that “Russia has returned to a cold war policy”, caused by Russia´s granting of asylum to NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, the United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, has apparently agreed to “holding the international conference on Syria in Geneva as soon as possible”  – again.

And what else should Kerry say, during a press conference, or during  negotiations with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov ?

What about the truth, something to the effect of ” come on Sergei, we stalled the conference for months and there is no way in hell that we will go for it unless it gives us a clear advantage with regard to the recolonization of the Middle East”.

The US, UK, French, or should we say the FU(C)KUS position on Syria, their arrogance and criminality have become unbearable.

It could be described as ridiculous, a farce, was it not for the fact that it has cost more than 100.000 lives since 2011, and that the political will of the US-American, British and French, Israeli, Saudi, Qatari and Turkish war criminals to end the violence and the bloodshed is literally non-existent.

The performance by John Kerry was flawless. Not even the slightest hint of a blush when he said that the USA is committed to holding the Geneva 2 conference as soon as possible. And why should he blush. He has not even lied. As soon as possible can be some time in the very distant future, and nobody has asked if the USA and its partners in crime would stop pouring petrol on the fire to keep the “opposition” as less motivated as possible to “hold talks”.

One picture tells more than a thousand words, it is said, and in the case of the joint press conference by John Kerry and Sergey Lavrov, this statement is as true as it possibly could be.

Actually the performance of Russia´s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov was flawless too. Just thinking about how difficult it must have been to utter the following statement, without biting his tongue to blood should earn him an Oscar in the category “self restraint” .

“We have a consensus on the necessity for holding the Geneva Conference, based on the meeting which was convened in Moscow between me and my US counterpart John Kerry”.

One moment, when… was it that Kerry was in Moscow and agreed on holding the conference “as early as possible”. Nobody even remembers without looking it up. Right, that was in May.. June, July, August . . . And how many weapons has the alliance shipped to its al-Qaeda death squads since then ?

Words apparently come cheap, especially when one´s name is John Kerry and each and every of the lives that are being lost while Kerry and his crime cartel stall the conference by not using the influence the United States has over its “partners in the Middle East and in Europe” is precious.

There are two statements which come to my mind when I am reflecting over the situation. The one was made by the Russian Ambassador to the United Nation, Vitaly Churkin in February 2013, when Churkin said:

“The US-announcement not to arm the opposition in Syria does not absolve the USA from its full responsibility for what is taking place in Syria or the practices of the opposition”.

The other one was made by Russia´s Ambassador to NATO, Alexander Grutchko, in February 2013, when Grutchko said:

“Someone here in Brussels made a most profound point by saying that if you are holding a hammer, you should not think that every emerging problem is a nail. We think the world has ample opportunity to engage in energy cooperation and to ensure energy security without making use of military-political organizations as an instrument”.

The point is, that words come cheaper to some than they come to others, and that no half-baked lies about that the USA agrees to holding the Geneva conference “as soon as possible” absolves its political and military leadership from the full responsibility for the war crimes that are being committed by its murderous “partners”.

9/11 served and is still serving as the blinding propaganda pretext for the Global War of Terror against several countries and populations, the expansion of the military and intelligence complex, the invasion of other countries in violation of international law, and the curtailing of civil liberties, the film provides an inspiring demonstration of intellectual courage that will cause many scholars to reflect on the academy’s role and strength to dismantle the war system. As Alvin A. Lee, President Emeritus of McMaster University, has stated in his endorsement of the film: academics should “stand sufficiently outside society intellectually to see, understand, and interpret what is going on.”

This documentary confronts the academy’s uncritical response to the
defining event of our times. It is an essential viewing for everyone in academe.

9/11 IN THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY
Documentary Preview & Press Release
August 5, 2013

Coming this fall, “9/11 in the Academic Community,” a Winner of the University of Toronto Film Festival, is a unique film that documents academia’s treatment of critical perspectives on 9/11 by exploring the taboo that shields the American government’s narrative from scholarly examination. Through a powerful reflection on intellectual courage and the purpose of academia, the film aims at changing intellectual discourse on 9/11 and the War on Terror.

All efforts are being made to make this film available by this October. Please widely distribute the preview:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFzVKDdCa6s

As well as probing the repercussions several scholars have endured due to their investigation of 9/11, this documentary provides an analysis of impairments in professional inquiry, ranging from the failure to critically reflect on terms functioning as thought-stoppers (such as “conspiracy theory”) to the structural approach that restricts inquiry to the broad implications of 9/11 while shutting out enquiry into the events of the day itself. Morton Brussel, Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has stated: “The main thesis of the film concerns the silence of the academic community on this vital issue. I think it is extremely important and very well produced.”

As 9/11 served as the rationale for the Global War on Terror, the expansion of the military and intelligence complex, the invasion of other countries in violation of international law, and the curtailing of civil liberties, the film provides an inspiring demonstration of intellectual courage that will cause many scholars to reflect on the academy’s role and strength to dismantle the war system. As Alvin A. Lee, President Emeritus of McMaster University, has stated in his endorsement of the film: academics should “stand sufficiently outside society intellectually to see, understand, and interpret what is going on.”

From: Allen

All,

I have just watched the trailer for a forthcoming film documentary 9/11 In the Academic Community.

It’s VERY impressive. If the film even approaches delivering the promise of the preview it will be a major milestone for 9/11 Truth.

I will be doing everything I can to promote it. In my opinion it rates with the marvellous achievements of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth (for example Explosive Evidence – Experts Speak Out highly professional analysis and high quality presentation giving it compelling credibility – where it matters. Others have also been impressed… Global Research Notification

I personally believe that the cause for 9/11 Truth has already been won (Why 9-11 Truth Has Won). This turning point occurred with the irrefutable establishment of free-fall collapse and thermite in the dust, although there is of course, much, much more and also much more to do.

Getting this message out to “the masses” is an enormous challenge due to the impediment of a corrupt and corporate-owned mainstream media, which we all know and lament. However, this film promises great hope in that opens a direct new front; a vanguard assault on the entrenched resistance of the professional classes for all of whom the great temple is academia.

There has been of recent, perhaps not-so-recent times a stealthy and occasionally grotesque advance of the same corporate disease that has captured and degraded the mainstream media, coercing academic institutions into compliance by all manner of insidious manipulations, not least of which is politically contrived financial dependence.

The wonderful promise of this film is two-fold in that it not only addresses the stark reality of truth about 9/11 and the childish state of denial and refusal to absorb the evidence but it also has the potential to shock-awaken the greater intellectual community to its broad complaisance among the insidious consequences of this advance.

I believe that it is the professional classes, not only academics (who really should have known better) but also the range of other professions from the courts, the executive and the legislature to science and industry and all other manner of community activity that depends on a level of intellectual development that drinks from the fountain of our universities and upon whom in turn, this whole system and the psychopaths who own and operate it depend utterly.

There is great unease among this class.

This unease is most evident in the overly-impassioned condemnation of the 9/11 “Conspiracy Theory” (even Noam Chomsky – 911-Truth, Chomsky and Assange), the collective blindness to the state of the world economy and the bail-outs that have brought uncertainty to that most sacred of all desirables, money to seem in its very concept like something ephemeral and surreal and the creeping anxiety about the lawlessness of the world that motivates for example, affluent people like Edward Snowden to break out and so many to empathise with him.

This film promises to break through the denial and resistance with the kind of direct, front-line assault that only shocking reality can deliver.

With a successful conversion of the professional classes the change we all hope for will come. The whole, criminal system depends entirely on the professional classes, not only to enable all that is happening but to protect the criminals from the courts and the light of day.

When there is no terrorism, there is the terrorism of imperial wars of invasions, occupations, colonizations….

Quotes:

Today, the United States Government issued another Alert on the possible
terrorist attack in the coming few days. Talking to Frederica, the CNN
moderator, Philip Dodd ( a former CIA terrorist expert), could not explain
what this alert means. He conceded, it is a vague alert as a precautionary
measure. In case, if there is a real attack by al-Qaeda, ‘the American
masses should not blame the State Department.’ America is enriched with a
history of issuing bogus alerts: Yellow alerts, Red Alerts and many
unspecified alerts not known to anybody except to George W. Bush
administration. The truth is One that all these alerts are meant to make
fearful/subdue the conscientious American people toward the Arab-Muslim
countries and promote the false notion that terrorism is embedded in the
Islamic culture and people. This policy has been in place for more than a
decade. This perpetuated fallacy has its own history and ultimate merits to
the US war economy.

Stephen Lendman (” America ‘s Permanent War Agenda” 3/01/2010 ), an American
political intellectual and a man of universal conscience put the history in
one nutshell:

“America glorifies wars in the name of peace, what historian Charles Beard
(1874 – 1948) called “perpetual war for perpetual peace” in describing the
Roosevelt and Truman administrations’ foreign policies – what concerned the
Federation of American Scientists when it catalogued about 200 post-1945
conflicts in which America was, and still is, the aggressor”

Michael Meacher (“This War on Terrorism is Bogus.” Guardian, UK : 9/6/2003
), British MP and Environment Minister in PM Tony Blair cabinet from May
1997 to June 2003 explain that the 9/11 attacks gave the US an ideal pretext
to use force to secure its global domination.

Mankind continues to be run down by the cancerous ego and cruelty of the few
Western warlords. Killing unjustifiably one innocent human being is like
killing of the whole of the humanity. The global warlords represent cruel
mindset incapable to see the human side of the living conscience. Madness of
the perpetuated war on terrorism and its triggered insanity knows no bound
across the global spectrum.

American historian Harry Elmer Barnes ( “Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace:
A Critical Examination of the Foreign Policy of Franklin Delano Roosevelt
and It’s Aftermath”) offered this stern warning to American leaders if the
US led wars continue leading to man’s annihilation from this planet:

“If trends continue as they have during the last fifteen years, we shall
soon reach this point of no return, and can only anticipate interminable
wars, disguised as noble gestures for peace. Such an era could only
culminate in a third world war which might well, as Arnold J. Toynbee has
suggested, leave only the pygmies in remote jungles, or even the apes and
ants, to carry on ‘the cultural traditions’ of mankind.”

“And here is the dilemma we face as a civilization” points out Chris Hedges
– author of Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of
Spectacle (“How to Think”, Common Dreams, 7/9/2012 ), “We march collectively
toward self-annihilation. Corporate capitalism, if left unchecked, will kill
us. Yet we refuse, because we cannot think and no longer listen to those who
do think, to see what is about to happen to us. We have created entertaining
mechanisms to obscure and silence the harsh truths, from climate change to
the collapse of globalization to our enslavement to corporate power that
will mean our self-destruction. If we can do nothing else we must, even as
individuals, nurture the private dialogue and the solitude that make thought
possible. It is better to be an outcast, a stranger in one’s own country,
than an outcast from one’s self. It is better to see what is about to befall
us and to resist than to retreat into the fantasies embraced by a nation of
the blind.”

When There Is No Terrorism, There Is Terrorism Of Wars

By Mahboob A. Khawaja

08 August, 2013
Countercurrents.org

“….Human nature is at least in part wicked and in part foolish, how can
human beings be prevented from suffering from the results of their
wickedness and folly? ….Men simply do not see that war is foolish and
useless and wicked. They think on occasion that it is necessary and wise and
honourable, for war is not the work of bad men knowing themselves to be
wrong, but of good men passionately convinced that they are right.” (C.E M.
Joad. Guide to Modern Wickedness, 1936).

The truth is One that all these alerts are meant to make
fearful and subdue the conscientious American people not to travel to the
Arab-Muslim countries and that terrorism is embedded in the Islamic culture
and people. This policy has been in place for more than a decade. This
perpetuated fallacy has its own history and ultimate merits to the US war
economy.

When nations and leaders have absolute power, they think in one way, not
with sense of rationality but with arrogance and complete disregard to the
interests of the mankind. The truth stands on its own that al-Qaeda and its
splinter groups were established by the CIA to fight against the former USSR
in Afghanistan and other Jihadi groups to defeat the spread of communism
moving on to the Middle East oil enriched region. These groups have no
global vitality or worthwhile operational capacity except on paper and
except when the US authorities want them to act to justify its major
warmongering in the region. Often, these dying entities are financed and
equipped by the CIA to remain afloat. War is life to American economy and
official psyche or else America could be dysfunctional. In next few days at
the end of Ramadhan – month of fasting, Muslims across the globe will have
public gatherings, feasts and special Eid Prayers. Such occasions could well
be interpreted by the US policy makers as Al-Qaeda affiliate events and
rallies. The American masses do not know the prevalent reality except what
they see on the television screen. The mainstream news media camouflage the
truth and misinforms the ordinary folks about the real challenges of life –
increased domestic violence against common citizens, governmental spying and
surveillance networks against the law abiding citizens and varied political
indoctrinations splitting the United States of America and more. An escape
from this reality serves the best interest of the ruling elite – the Men of
Kings sitting in the White House and at 10 Downing Street – all managers and
dream warriors of Wars from their fantasy and drawing rooms.

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts (past Reagan administration Assistant Secretary of
the Treasury for Economic Policy) ” Does Truth Have A Future In America ?”
<http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/> Information Clearing House :
01/7/ 2013 , offers a penetrating insight to the problem:

If a majority of Americans were like the readers of this site, truth could
prevail over special interests. Reality would inform social, political, and
economic life, and American prospects would be good. But when a majority are
hostile to facts and truths that do not support their biases and serve their
interests, there is a disconnect from reality, which is the situation in
America today…..Hope or no hope, truth is becoming harder to come
by……….Truth-tellers are inconvenient. Major General Antonio Taguba was
given the assignment of conducting the official inquiry into the Abu Ghraib
prisoner abuse. Instead of covering up the incidents as he was expected to
do for his third star, he produced a professional and truthful report. It
was Taguba’s career that was terminated, not the careers of those
responsible for the illegal torture of prisoners. Gen. Taguba was instructed
to resign by Gen. Richard Cody, the Vice-Chief of Staff of the Army. When
told that he was going to be investigated, Taguba said, “I’d been in the
Army 32 years by then, and it was the first time that I thought I was in the
Mafia.”

Truth is one and indivisible. The US and its allies invaded Iraq and
Afghanistan to occupy and exploit the oil and gas resources and the “war on
terror” has crossed over the borders into Pakistan . None of these nations
had the capability to threaten the US military supremacy or its Europeans
allies. Poverty-stricken people and the US AID recipient nations cannot
threaten the Master. So, then why this War on Terrorism?

The War on Terror or Terrorism of Wars has wide range of unspecified agendas
for long time to come:

*        to occupy the Arab heartland and to offer extended strategic and
political supremacy to Israel in the Middle East,

*        to control and manage the oil and gas resources of the Arab Middle
East,

*        to inject fear and powerful hegemonic influence of the Western
culture and varied civilizations,

*        to divide and rule the Arab and Muslims people from distance
powerhouses,

*        to create new markets for the dollar and to block trade-business
entry of China into the exclusive American Middle East market,

*        to entice ignorant Arab population with false imagery of freedom,
liberty and social justice and make the mindless rulers fearful of the
US-Europe influence in their future-making,

*        to distract attention from the decadent Western cultures and
civilizations as Huntington warned them of its crumbling and immediate
implication for the future,

*        To dismantle the socio-economic and political infrastructures of
the Arab-Muslim world, encouraging internal strife and sectarian bloodsheds
and making them subservient to the US-European military and economic
subjugation.

*        And so many other short-long terms implications

A “war of religion” is unfolding” observed Michel Chossudovsky ( ” America
‘s Holy Crusade against the Muslim World”, Global Research, 8/30/2010 ),
with a view to justifying a global military crusade. In the inner
consciousness of many Americans, the “holy crusade” against Muslims is
justified. While President Obama may uphold freedom of religion, the US
inquisitorial social order has institutionalized patterns of discrimination,
prejudice and xenophobia directed against Muslims.”

Does the US war strategy require other nations to follow the American policy
lead of war against all – the terrorism of war instigated by the Clash of
Civilizations theory?

The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) written by the
neo-conservatives in September 2000 before 9/11 – it pinpoints North Korea ,
Syria and Iran as dangerous regimes, and says their existence justifies the
creation of a “worldwide command and control system”. This is a blueprint
for US world domination. But before it is dismissed as an agenda for
rightwing fantasists, it is clear it provides a much better explanation of
what actually happened before, during and after 9/11 than the global war on
terrorism thesis.

Animals do not commit massacre of their kind and
species, nor set-up Abu-Ghraib style rape/torture camps for the war victims,
the Western led wars against the humanity have and continue to do so at an
unparallel global scale without being challenged by any global organizations
or leaders. Torture and massacres of innocent civilians are convenient fun
games to be defined as “collateral damage” and a statistic. Perhaps, they
view humanity just in digits and numbers, not as the living entities with
social, moral, spiritual and intellectual values and progressive agendas for
change and development. Every beginning has its end. It is just that most
powerful nations have failed to learn from the living history- a slap to EH
Carr’s precious thoughts of human history .

Einstein (“The World as I see it”) made it known that he was against
military campaigns, killings and destruction of the natural environment:
“This topic brings me to that worst outcrop of herd life, the military
system, which I abhor… This plague-spot of civilization ought to be
abolished with all possible speed. Heroism on command, senseless violence,
and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism — how
passionately I hate them!.”

The War on Terrorism is a recipe for more consequential disasters, far more
serious and cruel than perceived by the rational mindset at this stage in
time and history. The continued bogus war is a lifeline to the military
-industrial complex in Washington and to the weapon manufacturers in the US
and in other major European centers. Its dreadful futuristic impacts are not
part of the CNN, BBC or the State Department’s Yellow-Red alerts. There were
no alerts issued when on August 6, 1945 , Hiroshima and Nagasaki were
targeted. There are no alerts how the majority of the humanity will be
victimized and terminated by the single act of the few or some sadistic
leader. Paul Craig Roberts strikes a cautionary note to the American people:

There is no public uproar over the idea that national defense requires that
US citizens lose the protection of law that is granted by the US
Constitution. When citizens stand defenseless before their own government,
what national defense do they have? The obvious conclusion is that most
Americans are indifferent to liberty and are content with tyranny.

Men who are universally feared and hated need not to issue yellow-red alerts
to frighten the common people. They simply need to see the mirror and to fix
their own cruel mindset. There is no glory and no imaginative triumph in
acting against the mankind and pursuing a one-sided policy of Terrorism of
Wars. All previous so called Great Nations and Great Leaders having
invincible armies and weapons fell victims to their own plans of
self-destruction. Are the 21 st century’s superpowers looking toward such an
unthinkable end? American historian Harry Elmer Barnes ( “Perpetual War for
Perpetual Peace: A Critical Examination of the Foreign Policy of Franklin
Delano Roosevelt and It’s Aftermath”) offered this stern warning to American
leaders if the US led wars continue leading to man’s annihilation from this
planet:

“If trends continue as they have during the last fifteen years, we shall
soon reach this point of no return, and can only anticipate interminable
wars, disguised as noble gestures for peace. Such an era could only
culminate in a third world war which might well, as Arnold J. Toynbee has
suggested, leave only the pygmies in remote jungles, or even the apes and
ants, to carry on ‘the cultural traditions’ of mankind.”

Muslims were not born in the eye of the storm to threaten anybody. They are
not the societies breeding terrorism against America , Europe or anybody
else. All Arab-Muslim rulers are subservient [vassals] to the
American-Western political-military dictates. Those individuals who were
alleged to have attacked America for the 9/11 were the by-products of
American warfare sponsorship and CIA indoctrination in the Middle East . The
alleged individuals were culprits of the US warmongering, not the
representatives of any religion, be it Islam, Christianity or any other
culture. Terrorism originates from the Western imperialism and military
aggressions against the poor and helpless people. Time and encompassing
opportunities warrant New Thinking, New Leaders and New Visions for change
and the future-making. But change and creativity and new visions will not
emerge from the obsolete, redundant and failed authoritarianism of the few
insane leaders, be it the American leaders, European politicians leaders or
other rulers.. None have the understanding of the real world peace nor
respect for human life and co-existence in a splendid Universe. To challenge
the deafening silence of the US and Europeans for global peace and security,
the humanity must find ways and means to look beyond the obvious and
troublesome horizons dominated by the few warlords and continued to be
plagued with daily drone attacks on innocent civilians, cruel massacres of
children and women, barbarity against human culture and civilizations,
destruction of the habitats and natural environment as if there were no
rational being and people of Reason populating the God-given Universe. The
informed and mature global community looks towards those thinkers, educated
and honest proactive leaders enriched with coherent unity of moral,
spiritual and intellectual visions and abilities to be instrumental to
rescue it from the planned encroachment of the few sadistic warlords.

We are ONE HUMANITY living on ONE Planet Earth . Anything and everything
affects us all. It is time that people of CONSCIENCE across the globe raise
their voices loud and clear . The War on terrorism – the Terrorism of Wars
must stop, human life, the habitats and the living Universe must be
protected from the cruelty of the few self-centered political maniacs.

It is better to see what is about to befall
us and to resist than to retreat into the fantasies embraced by a nation of
the blind.”

Federal Agents Provide Weapons for Attempted Terrorist Attack on US Capitol

If the latest news from the Department of Justice is to be believed, a 29 year old terrorist conspired to develop and carry out an attempted terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

In fact – as the DOJ press release story goes – Amine El Khalifi, an illegal immigrant from Morocco, was arrested in Washington for allegedly attempting a suicide attack against the U.S. Capitol building.

The news reports all indicate that Amine El Khalifi planned this and other attacks over several months, and that he was only captured after a carefully planned investigation was carried out by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

However, when you start digging more deeply into the story than most journalists appear willing to do, you will learn a few disturbing facts about the case that make it apparent this is more of a fabricated attack scenario than a nefarious Al-Qaeda sleeper-agent.

In fact, it is likely that the attempted terrorist attack against the U.S. Capitol Building would never have materialized if it weren’t for the careful efforts of the undercover FBI agents encouraging El Khalifi to act out his extremist beliefs.

Why would the FBI seek to encourage such an individual to carry out his actions? One likely answer is that such an arrest – the seemingly heroic halt of a terrorist attack against the U.S. Capitol Building – not only “proves” that the Feds are doing their job in protecting the nation against terrorist, but it also serves to keep the idea alive that the U.S. is under a constant threat from terrorism.

Entrapping an Unstable Individual

At first glance, the story appears as though Amine El Khalifi was caught in the middle of an elaborate terrorist scheme to bomb U.S. targets, at closer inspection it becomes obvious that Amine El Khalifi was simply an unstable individual with extreme views regarding the war on terrorism and U.S. sentiment toward Muslims.

If you read the DOJ press release carefully, it is apparent that before the FBI set their covert agents loose upon El Khalifi, he was nothing more than an illegal immigrant with an extreme opinion. However, that opinion was enough to attract the attention of the FBI, which set its machinery in motion to entrap the young man into actually carrying out an attack.

It all started on January 11th, 2011, when an FBI source happened to be at a residence in Arlington, VA, where El Khalifi was also present. The FBI source watched as one person at the residence took out an AK-47 and some revolvers and started preaching to those present about how the

U.S. War on Terrorism is actually a “War on Muslims.”

Keep in mind, that the man with the guns who was expressing that opinion was not El Khalifi. All Khalifi did to attract the interest of the FBI informant was to agree with that individual’s extreme beliefs.

He agreed with an opinion.

That meeting set in motion a surreal series of actions by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force to encourage the young man to further explore his agreement with those sentiments, and to even consider carrying them out. The FBI went so far as to supply El Khalifi with the very weapons that he could use to carry out the act.

Then, at the last moment, they could sweep in and arrest him – proving to the country that the terrorist threat is alive and well. But is that the real story?

How the FBI Grew a Terrorist

Reading the DOJ press release describing the so-called “investigation” is like observing an admission of entrapment like no other. It is surprising that the DOJ would be willing to admit to these actions at all.

According to the press release, after that initial meeting in the apartment in early 2011, the undercover FBI agent known as “Hussien” introduced El Khalifi to another undercover agent going by the name of “Yusuf”.

According to the DOJ, El Khalifi was the one who “proposed to carry out a bombing attack”, and that he suggested bombing a U.S. military building, a synagogue, and a restaurant frequented by U.S. Army generals. Up until his interactions with the undercover agents, from all indications it appears that El Khalifi was nothing more than an unstable individual with extreme beliefs about the U.S. War on Terror – that he was all talk.

However the agents appeared to diligently guide El Khalifi toward a more “active” approach to those beliefs. Instead of simply talking about and planning such fictional attacks, the undercover agents suggested that El Khalifi should connect with al-Qaeda and act out his fantasies.

Early this year, on January 7th, the FBI stepped up their entrapment when undercover agent “Hussien” told El Khalifi that he was an operative for al-Qaeda, and discussed El Khalifi’s desires to bomb a restaurant and the idea that al-Qaeda operatives could carry it out. According to the DoJ, “El Khalifi understood that his attack on the restaurant would be part of an al-Qaeda operation…”

Again – this was nothing more than a discussion that was encouraged by the FBI undercover agents themselves. Is there really any evidence showing that El Khalifi – however unstable he was – would have ever entertained these ideas regarding attempted terrorist attacks had they not been introduced as a possibility by the undercover agents?

FBI Provided the Bomb and the Weapons

Undercover FBI agents assisted and encouraged El Khalifi – slowly directing him toward the U.S. Capitol Building attack, with the following actions:

1. Providing El Khalifi with a cell phone number and convincing him that he could call to detonate a “test bomb” that had been placed at a quarry in West Virginia.

2. Allowing El Khalifi to select February 17th as the day of the terrorist operation against the U.S. Capital Building.

3. Convincing El Khalifi to travel to the U.S. Capitol to conduct surveillance and to choose the drop-off spot where he would enter the building.

4. Providing El Khalifi with a MAC-10 automatic weapon, a bomb vest, and even the drop-off vehicle from which he would conduct the terrorist attack.

On the day of the “attack”, El Khalifi followed his part in the operation that the undercover FBI agents had so carefully planned out for him. Fully geared up with all of the FBI-provided “weapons of mass destruction”, El Khalifi started walking out of the parking garage, and was immediately arrested by FBI agents that were laying in wait for his arrival.

In an ironic statement following the arrest, Assistant Attorney General Monaco mentioned the event to reporters as though it was a case of an actual attempted terrorist attack that was thwarted by law enforcement as evidence of a “threat” from violent extremists in the U.S.

“Today’s case underscores the continuing threat we face from homegrown violent extremists. Thanks to a coordinated law enforcement effort, El Khalifi’s alleged plot was thwarted before anyone was harmed.”

When you look more carefully at the case, very serious questions arise concerning whose plot it really was? Who really suggested – or encouraged – the attack against the Capitol Building. Was this young, 29-year-old illegal immigrant from Moracco simply an unstable individual, at the wrong place at the wrong time? Was he simply an easy target for the feds to mold into what they would later label a “homegrown violent extremist”?

Because, from all indications, El Khalifi wasn’t homegrown at all – he was FBI-grown.

I’m all for fighting a war on terrorism – actual terrorism – but is it really necessary to provide unstable people with extreme views with the very weapons and inspiration to carry out acts of terrorism?

Whistleblower Edward Snowden told a German magazine that Israel and the United States created the Stuxnetcomputer virus that destroyed nuclear centrifuges in Iran.

Snowden made the statement as part of an interview with the German news magazine Der Spiegel in which he answered encrypted questions sent by security software developer Jacob Appelbaum and documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras. Excerpts of the interview were published Monday on the Spiegel website.

Snowden was asked if the U.S. National Security Agency partners “with other nations, like Israel?” He responded that the NSA has a “massive body” responsible for such partnerships called the Foreign Affairs Directorate.

He also was asked,  “Did the NSA help to create Stuxnet?” Snowden responded, “NSA and Israel co-wrote it.”

Stuxnet in 2010 wrought havoc on equipment at Iran’s Natanz nuclear plant and complicated the manufacture of highly enriched uranium, which the West suspects is intended for making atomic weapons. The virus temporarily disabled 1,000 centrifuges being used by the Iranians to enrich uranium.

Snowden, a former technical contractor for the NSA and employee of the CIA, last month revealed the existence of mass surveillance programs by the United States and Britain against their own citizens and citizens of other countries.

He said Germany and most other Western nations are “in bed together” with the NSA.

Snowden said a private citizen would be targeted by the NSA based on Facebook or webmail content.

“The only one I personally know of that might get you hit untargeted are jihadi forums,” he said.

Snowden is a fugitive of the United States who is believed to be in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. Three Latin American countries — Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia — have offered him asylum, NBC reported.

IBN TAYMIYYA, AND THE OCCULT ORIGINS OF THE SALAFI MOVEMENT

Submitted by David Livingstone on Thu, 08/01/2013 – 22:19

Despite the horrors associated with “Shariah,” those instances represent aberrations perpetrated by radical factions of the religion created specifically to malign the reputation of Islam. With the increase of her power through her colonial possessions, Britain sought to undermine the great power of the time, the Islamic empire of the Ottoman Turks. To pursue their infamous strategy of Divide and Conquer, by creating rivalries within the Empire, the British needed the opportunity to rewrite the laws of Islam in order to create competing interpretations.

However, due to a process known as the Closing of the Doors of Ijtihad, the outstanding achievement of Islamic law, which was formulated as a communal project over three centuries, was cordoned off from corruption. Four major schools of interpretation had been established, known as Maddhabs. Each Muslim was required to follow one of these four schools, a practice known as Taqlid, and it was no longer permitted to re-open the debate, known as Ijtihad, as all pressing questions were unanimously deemed to have been settled.

Therefore, after a thousand years of remaining unchallenged, the sanctity of Ijtihad was challenged for the first time, beginning in the seventeenth century, by a legion of “Revivalist” Islamic reformers. All had in common, like the Wahhabis of Saudi Arabia, secret ties with the British and an emphasis on the precedent of a controversial thirteenth century scholar named Ibn Taymiyyah, in support of their innovations.

Since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, the Wahhabis and Revivalists have managed to commandeer Islam, such that the traditions of classical tradition, represented by Maddhabs, have been nearly entirely forgotten, and Ibn Taymiyyah (1263 – 1328) is now regarded as one of the great scholars of Islamic history and has gone on to inspire the most wayward distortions of Islam in our time.

Despite his current reputation, Ibn Taymiyyah spent much of his career in prison, put there by the scholars of his time for repeated charges of heresy. Opinions about Ibn Taymiyyah during his lifetime varied widely. One of his opponents, who had the most success in refuting his views, was Taqi al Din Al Subki who was eventually appointed chief judge of Damascus. Of him Ibn Taymiyyah admitted, “no jurist has refuted me except al Subki.”[1] Al Subki was nevertheless ready to concede to Ibn Taymiyyah’s virtues: “personally, my admiration is even greater for the asceticism, piety, and religiosity with which God has endowed him, for his selfless championship of the truth, his adherence to the path of our forbearers, his pursuit of perfection, the wonder of his example, unrivalled in our time and in times past.”[2] And yet, al Subki remarked, “his learning exceeded his intelligence.”[3]

It was for his typical intemperance that the famous traveller Ibn Battuta declared that Ibn Taymiyyah had a “screw loose.”[4] Among the contemporary scholars who also confronted him, Al Safadi said: “he wasted his time refuting the Christians and the Rafida, or whoever objected to the religion or contradicted it, but if he had devoted himself to explaining al Bukhari or the Noble Quran, he would have placed the garland of his well-ordered speech on the necks of the people of knowledge.”[5] And al Nabahani said: “He refuted the Christians, the Shia, the logicians, then the Asharis and Ahl al Sunna (Sunnis), in short, sparing no one whether Muslim or non-Muslim, Sunni or otherwise.”[6] He was chided by one of his own students, the famous historian and scholar, al Dhahabi, who said, “blessed is he whose fault diverts him from the faults of others! Damned is he whom others divert from his own faults! How long will you look at the motes in the eyes of your brother, forgetting the stumps in your own?”[7] Other former admirers who became critical of him were the Qadi al Zamalkani, Jalal al Din al Qazwini, al-Qunawi, al Jariri.

After three centuries of his views being scrutinized by the leading scholars of the time, like al Subki and others, a Fatwawas finally pronounced in the sixteenth century by Ibn Hajar al Haytami, who represents the foremost resource for legal opinion in the entire late Shafi Madhhab, who declared:

Ibn Taymiyyah is a servant whom God forsook, misguided, blinded, deafened, and debased. That is the declaration of the imams who have exposed the corruption of his positions and the mendacity of his sayings. Whoever wishes to pursue this must read the words of the Mujtahid Imam Abu al Hasan al Subki, of his son Taj al Din Subki, of the Imam al Izz ibn Jama and others of the Shafi, Maliki, and Hanafi scholars… It must be considered that he is a misguided and misguiding innovator and an ignorant who brought evil whom God treated with His justice. May He protect us from the likes of his path, doctrine, and actions.[8]

The Wahhabis, in particular, have inherited a vociferous hatred of Sufism from Ibn Taymiyyah, who is widely considered the leading exponent of the kinds of attacks on Sufism that were thought characteristic of the Hanbali school. In our time, Muslims are beset with a new Divide and Conquer strategy where, as in the US, citizens are forced to choose between Democrats and Republicans, Muslims are now presented with either Sufism or Wahhabism as the only true representatives of Islamic tradition. Both camps are savvy at exposing each other’s corruption, but each also offer deviations of their own.

In our time, the most astute opponents of Wahhabism are the Sufis. However, despite their claims otherwise, the Sufis often represent heretical traditions. According to Ibn Khaldun, (1332–1406), considered one of the fathers of modern historiography, and as one of the greatest philosophers of the Muslim world, in his Muqaddima:

The path of the so-called Sufis (mutasawwifa) comprises two paths. The first is the path of the Sunna, the path of their forefathers (salaf), according to the Book and Sunna, imitating their righteous forefathers among the Companions (of the Prophet) and the Followers.

The second path, which is contaminated by (heretical) innovations, is the way of a group among the recent thinkers (muta’akhkhirun) who make the first path a means to the removal (kashf) of the veil of sensation, because that is one of its results. Now among these self-styled Sufis are Ibn ‘Arabi, Ibn Sab‘in, Ibn Barrajan and their followers among those who traveled their way and worshipped according to their (heretical) sect (nihla). They have many works filled with pure unbelief and vile innovations, as well as corresponding interpretations of the outward forms (of scripture and practice) in the most bizarre, unfounded and reprehensible ways—such that one who examines them will be astounded at their being related to religion (al-milla) or being considered part of the Sharia.[9]

Sufism had been in conflict with Islamic orthodoxy since the ninth century culminating in the execution of al-Husayn ibn Mansur al Hallaj. It is generally accepted that the first exponent of Sufi doctrine was the Egyptian or Nubian, Dhun Nun, of the ninth century AD, whose teaching was recorded and systematized by al Junayd. The doctrines expressed by al Junayd were then boldly preached by his pupil, ash-Shibli of Khurasan in the tenth century. A fellow-student of ash-Shibli, was al Hallaj whose thought demonstrated some clearly heretical elements, such as reincarnation, incarnation, and so on. He was ultimately put to death by the son of Saladin, the great Muslim leader who recaptured Palestine from the Crusaders, for declaring “I am the truth,” identifying himself with God. However, later Sufi writers nevertheless regard him as a saint and martyr, who suffered because he disclosed the great secret of the mystical union of man and God.

The Sufis reinterpret the ancient magical practices of mystical union with the “divine” as Hulul, or the incarnation of God in the human body. While Tawheed, the “oneness” of God, typically refers to the monotheistic creed of Islam, for the Sufis it refers to this mystical union with God. According to al Hallaj, for example, man is essentially divine because he was created by God in his own image, and that is why he claimed that in the Quran God commands the angels to bow down in “worship” to Adam. As De Lacy O’Leary described, in Arabic Thought and its Place in History:

This is an extremely interesting illustration of the fusion of oriental and Hellenistic elements in Sufism, and shows that the theoretical doctrines of Sufism, whatever they may have borrowed from Persia and India, receive their interpretative hypotheses from neo-Platonism. It is interesting also as showing in the person of al-Hallaj a meeting-point between the Sufi and the philosopher of the Isma‘ilian school.[10]

An important source of ancient mystical teachings like Neoplatonism in Sufism were the Epistles of the Ikhwan al Saffa wa Khullan al Wafa, or of “The Brethren of Sincerity and Loyal Friends,” a brotherhood that flourished in the city of Basra in Iraq. It is also generally agreed that the Epistles were composed by leading proponents of the Ismailis, a heretical sect of the Shiah.[11] These Epistles were a philosophical and religious encyclopedia, which scholars regard as reflecting elements of Pythagorean, Neoplatonic and Zoroastrian traditions drawn up in the tenth century AD. Though the Epistles drew on multiple traditions, they attributed to them a common origin, echoing Aristobulus in tracing Greek philosophy to Jewish roots.18

The Epistles also boasted that, along with representatives of all walks of society, their order also consisted of “philosophers, sages, geometers, astronomers, naturalists, physicians, diviners, soothsayers, casters of spells and enchantments, interpreters of dreams, alchemists, astrologers, and many other sorts, too many to mention”[12] TheEpistles, which contributed to the popularization of Neoplatonism in the Arabic world, had a great influence on Islamic mysticism and philosophy, such as that of the renowned Sufi, Ibn Arabi, and was transmitted as far as Al-Andalus, or Moorish Spain, where they would have a profound influence of Jewish Kabbalah.

Mystical tradition also purports that the Zohar, the most important Kabbalistic text, written in the thirteenth century, was based on an earlier “Arabic Kabbalah” of the Brethren of Sincerity. Isaac the Blind, a pivotal figure among the thirteenth century Kabbalists of the Languedoc, studied not only Jewish, but also early Greek, and Christian Gnostic writings, as well as the Brethren of Sincerity. The Brethren of Sincerity and other Sufi mystics were widely studied by later Jewish mystics, such as Abraham Ibn Ezra, Moses Maimonides, Judah Halevi, Bahya Ibn Pakuda, Ibn Gabirol.

The philosopher who most personified the interweaving of Judaism and Islam was the eleventh century Spanish Jew, Ibn Gabirol, who assimilated ideas from the Brethren of Sincerity to such an extent that it was his primary source of inspiration after the Bible. He also followed the teachings of the tenth century Sufi mystic Mohammed Ibn Masarra (883–931 AD), who had introduced Sufism to Spain.[13] Ibn Gabirol, along with Ibn Arabi, was considered one of the two great followers of Ibn Masarra. Ibn Arabi, who was heavily influenced by the Epistles of the Brethren of Sincerity, formulated many of the ideas that became central to the Zohar. For example, his theory of the mystical import of language, the concept that man was a complete microcosm of the macrocosmic God, and specific interpretations of grammar and prayer all became central to the Kabbalah.[14]

In the eleventh century, however, a famous Islamic philosopher by the name of al Ghazali had proposed a reconciliation of orthodox Islam with Sufism which apparently ended much of the controversy. Nevertheless, there remained bitter debates led primarily by the leaders of the Hanbali Maddhab. However, as George Makdisi has shown, while leading Hanbali scholars showed opposition to certain Sufi practices, a large number of them nevertheless often belonged to Sufi orders. The claim is reinforced by Ibn Rajab (1335-1393) in his Dhail, where more than a hundred leading Hanbali scholars are referred to as “Sufis,” accounting for one sixth of the Hanbalis he discussed.

Despite their rabid denunciations of Sufism, Henri Laoust has written of Ibn Taymiyyah’s affinities with it, and commented that one would search in vain to find in his works the least condemnation of Sufism.[15] Ibn Taymiyyah showed admiration for the works of prominent Sufis like al Junayd, Abdul Qadir al Gilani and Abu Hafs as-Suhrawardi (1145-1234). Suhrawardi had expanded the Sufi order of Suhrawardiyya that was created by his uncle Abu al-Najib al-Suhrawardi. The order traced its spiritual genealogy to the son-in-law of the Prophet Mohammed, Ali ibn Abi Talib, through al Junayd Baghdadi and al-Ghazali. It played an important role in the formation of trade-guilds and youth clubs, particularly in Baghdad, where some of its usages, according to occult scholar Idries Shah, resemble those of Freemasonry.[16]

In a Hanbali work on the wearing of the Sufi cloak or mantle (Khirqa), preserved in a unique manuscript in Princeton, by Yusuf ibn Abd al Hadi (d. 909/1503) who was also a Hanbali, Ibn Taymiyyah and his famous pupil Ibn al Qayyim are listed in a Sufi genealogy with well-known Hanbali scholars, all of whom except one, Abdul Qadir al Gilani, were till then unknown as Sufis.[17] Abdul Qadir al Gilani (1077–1166) was the founder of the Qadiriyya Sufi order, which is particularly venerated in the Western occult tradition, where it is seen by some as the origin of the Rosicrucian movement. Gilani was a pupil of Ibn Aqil (d. 1119), who had been required by other Hanbalis to denounce his heretical tendencies and retract a work which he had written glorifying al Hallaj, the notorious Sufi who was executed in 922 AD for declaring himself God. However, Hanbali scholar Ibn Qudama (d. 1223), in his Censure of Speculative Theology, doubted the sincerity of his retraction and George Makdisi concurs, suggesting that Ibn Aqil practiced prudent dissimulation (taqiyya). Gilani himself, according to Ibn Rajab, was condemned for harboring heretical works in his school, particularly the writings of the Brethren of Sincerity.[18]

The legend of Jilani’s life and career were largely embellished by his successors. For example, his pedigree was traced on his father’s side in the direct line to Hasan, grandson of the Prophet. But the pedigree was shown to be a fabrication of his grandson the Abu Salih Nasr, to whom numerous fictions can be traced.[19] The list of his performed miracles began at the earliest while only a child, when he was to have begun a fast by refusing the breast of his mother. He was believed to be able to punish distant sinners and assist the oppressed in a miraculous manner, walk on water and move through air. Angels and Jinn, “people of the hidden world” and even the Prophet Muhammed himself, it was said, would appear at his meetings and express their appreciation. According to David Margoliouth, al Jilani’s fame among his followers in some cases nearly displaced that of the Prophet Muhammed, and he is regularly styled the Sultan of the Saints.[20] His reputation attracted numerous pupils from all parts of the Islamic world, and his persuasive rhetoric is said to have converted many Jews and Christians to Islam.

Like Ibn Arabi, Jilani also claimed to have come into contact with the mysterious figure of al Khidr, revered by the Sufis, three times over the course of his life. While pagan mysticism typically aspires to union with a “god,” a practice which would otherwise be acknowledged in Islam as communication with Jinn, the Sufis avoid all associations by claiming to make contact with the mysterious figure of al Khidr, meaning‎ “the Green One.” Though not mentioned by that name in the Quran, al Khidr is identified with a figure met by Moses. He is referred to as the “Servant of God” and as “one from among Our friends whom We had granted mercy from Us [God] and whom We had taught knowledge from Ourselves.” In the Quran, Moses asks for permission to accompany him that he may learn “right knowledge of what [he has] been taught.”[21] But the name Khidr is found only in Hadith literature, such as the case narrated by Imam Ahmad in Al-Zuhd, whereby the Prophet Muhammad is said to have stated that Elijah and Khidr meet every year and spend the month of Ramadan in Jerusalem, and another narrated by Yaqub ibn Sufyan from Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, whereby a man he was seen walking with was actually Khidr.

However, to the Sufis, Khidr acquired a number of occult associations and, we have to assume, was the disguise assumed by demonic apparitions. The figure of Khidr originated most likely from Jewish legends and is associated with the Muslim Mahdi, in the same way that the prophet Elijah is associated with the Jewish Messiah.[22] According to the Book of Kings, Elijah defended the worship of the one God over that of the Phoenician god Baal. Elijah, like Enoch, did not die but is believed to have ascended directly to heaven. Some of the earliest sources on Sandalphon, an archangel in Jewish and Christian writings, refer to him as the prophet Elijah transfigured and elevated to angelic status. Other sources, mainly from the Midrashic period, describe Sandalphon as the “twin brother” of Metatron, whose human origin as Enoch was similar to the human origin of Sandalphon. In Kabbalah, Sandalphon is the angel who represents the Sephiroth of Malkhut and overlaps, or is confounded with, the angel Metatron. Elijah is an important figure of the Kabbalah, where numerous leading Kabbalists claimed to preach a higher knowledge of the Torah directly inspired by the prophet through a “revelation of Elijah” (gilluy ‘eliyahu).

Khidr also shows certain affinities with the ancient dying-god by also representing fertility, which is offered as the reason for his association with the color green. Likewise, Elijah’s association with fertility and rain production is widespread in Biblical and rabbinic literature.[23] Khidr is recognized as associated with the Green Man motif, which is often related to fertility deities found in different cultures throughout the world, such as the Celtic god Cernunnos, Green George, Jack in the green, John Barleycorn, Robin Goodfellow, Puck, and the Green Knight of Grail legend. A more modern version is found in Peter Pan, who enters the civilized world from Neverland, clothed in green leaves. Wicca claims, despite the obvious associations, not to worship the devil but as merely being a fertility cult that worships the Green Man, who has often been used as a representation of the Horned God.

The figure of al Khidr has its equivalent in the cult of Saint George, shared by Christian, Jews as well as Muslims. There is a tradition in the Holy Land of Christians and Muslims going to an Eastern Orthodox shrine of Saint George at Beith Jala, with Jews also attending the site in the belief that the prophet Elijah was buried there. These Muslims worshipped this same Saint George or Elijah as the Sufi figure of al Khidr, a tradition which was found throughout the Middle East, from Egypt to Asia Minor.[24]

Historians note that the origin of Saint George is in Cappadocia and is similar to the ancient god named Dionysus-Sabazios, who was usually depicted riding on horseback. Dionysus-Sabazios was one of the many gods that the Romans nominally adopted from other cultures, such as the Egyptian Isis, the Persian Mysteries of Mithras, Thracian/Phrygian Sabazius, and Phrygian Cybele. The rites of Dionysus, known as Dionysus-Sabazios, were the same as those performed in Asia Minor in honor of Cybele, known as the Magna Mater, which was taken over from the Persian worship of Anahita in Cappadocia, now east-central Turkey. He was originally Attis, named after the Phrygian name for goat. His consort was the Magna Mater, the Great Mother, Cybele, identified with Venus and worshipped as the goddess of fertility.

In Phrygia, where numerous Jewish colonies were established, Attis was assimilated to Dionysus-Sabazios, which an etymology that dates back to the Hellenistic period equates with Yahweh Zebaoth, the Biblical Lord of Hosts.[25] Cumont maintained: “undoubtedly he belonged to a Jewish-pagan sect that admitted neophytes of every race to its mystic ceremonies.”[26] According to Lydus, a Byzantine astrologer of the sixth century AD, “the Chaldeans call the god Dionysus (or Bacchus), Iao [Yahweh] in the Phoenician tongue (instead of the Intelligible Light), and he is also called Sabaoth, signifying that he is above the seven poles, that is the Demiurgos.”[27]  In the first century AD, Cornelius Labeo, equated Iao with Dionysus, from the following Oracle of Apollo of Claros:

Those who have learned the mysteries should hide the unsearchable secrets, but, if their understanding is small and the mind weak, then ponder this: that Iao is the supreme god of all gods; in winter, Hades; at spring’s beginning, Zeus; the Sun in summer; and in autumn, the splendid Iao.[28]

There has been a tendency among modern apologists of the occult to suggest that the Ancient Mysteries were unfairly maligned by Christian authors who equated their gods with the devil of the Bible. However, similar complaints about the barbarity of these mysteries were made by pagan critics as well. In 186 BC a scandal over the Bacchanalia, the Latin name for the Dionysian Mysteries, so upset the Romans that a decree of the Senate prohibited them throughout Italy, except in certain special cases. Livy, the Roman historian who lived at the turn of the first millennium, described the Dionysian rites as they had come to light in the controversy:

When wine had inflamed their feelings, and night and the mingling of the sexes and of different ages had extinguished all power of moral judgment, all sorts of corruption began to be practiced, since each person had ready to hand the chance of gratifying the particular desire to which he was naturally inclined.  The corruption was not confined to one kind of evil, the promiscuous violation of free men and women; the cult was also a source of supply of false witnesses, forged documents and wills, and perjured evidence, dealing also in poisons and in wholesale murders among devotees, and sometimes ensuring that not even the bodies were found for burial.  Many such outrages were committed by craft, and even more by violence; and the violence was concealed because no cries for help could be heard against the shriekings, the banging of drums and the clashing of cymbals in the scene of debauchery and bloodshed.[29]

George’s mother was from Lydda, Palestine, but he was a Cappadocian born in Cilicia, the heartland of the Mithraic Mysteries during Hellenistic times, and its capital city of Tarsus was the birthplace as well of the apostle Paul. Saint George is also the origin of the knightly tale of rescuing a maiden from a dragon. The legend is not a Christian story at all, but is a Christian adaptation of the typical duel of the Middle Eastern dying-god, like Baal, against the Sea-Dragon, or Zeus against Typhon the Titan.

A further identification with the dying-god and the Kabbalistic concept of the Primordial Adam, or Adam Kadmon, and later Metatron, is found in al Khidr’s identification in Sufism with the concept of the Qutb, meaning “pole” or “axis” and with Hermes. Jilani also spoke of the related notion of the “perfect saint” which became prominent in Sufism. To Jilani, the perfect saint represents a microcosm as his intellect encompasses all, or because his existence comprises all things. This idea of the perfect man among the Sufis is recognized by scholars as dating back to ancient Magian and Gnostic sources, and the notion is traced by Gilles Quispel to Kabbalistic conceptions concerning the primordial Adam.[30] The Epistles of the Brethren of Sincerity define a perfect man as “of East Persian derivation, of Arabic faith, of Iraqi, that is Babylonian, in education, Hebrew in astuteness, a disciple of Christ in conduct, as pious as a Syrian monk, a Greek in natural sciences, an Indian in the interpretation of mysteries and, above all a Sufi or a mystic in his whole spiritual outlook.”[31] The fact that Gilani regarded himself as the perfect saint is suggested in a saying attributed to him: “my foot is on the neck of every saint of God,” thus laying claim to the highest rank and as having obtained the consent of all the saints of the epoch.[32] Similarly, in the works of Ibn Arabi, al Gilani is mentioned as a just man, theQutb of his time.[33]

Nevertheless, Ibn Taymiyyah referred to al Jilani as Sheikhuna, “our Sheikh,” a title which he doesn’t proffer on anyone else in all of his works. In his own words, Ibn Taymiyyah confessed in his work al-Masala at-Tabriziya: “I wore the blessed Sufi cloak of Abdul Qadir (al Gilani), there being between him and me two (Sufi Sheikhs).”[34] In a lost work titled Itfa hurqat al-hauba bi-ilbas khirqat at-tauba, by Ibn Nasir ad-Din, Ibn Taymiyyah is quoted as affirming having belonged to more than one Sufi order and praising that of al Jilani as the greatest of all. The Bahdjat al-asrar contains the narrative of many miracles performed by al Jilani, corroborated by chains of witnesses, which Ibn Taymiyyah declared credible, despite the fact that others, namely al Dhahabi, condemned the book as containing frivolous tales.[34

One of the most damming clues for the possible reasons for the resucitataion of Ibn aymiyyah’s reputation was the fact that al Jilani’s Qadiriyya was considered the source for the occult teachings of a notorious sixteenth century secret society, known as the Rosicrucians.vAccording to occult historians, the Rosicrucians acquired their symbol of the rose from the Sufis. Idries Shah, secretary and companion to Gerald Gardner, the founder of the modern religion of witchcraft known as Wicca, and close associate of the godfather of twentieth century Satanism, Aleister Crowley, claimed the Rosicrucians derived from the influence of the Qadiriyya Sufi order, to which Ibn Taymiyyah belonged. Christian Rosenkreutz would have supposedly come into contact with the Qadiriyya during his travels in the Middle East. Gilani, the founder of the Qadiriyya, was known as the “Rose of Baghdad.” The rose became the symbol of his order and a rose of green and white cloth with a six-pointed star in the middle is traditionally worn in the cap of Qadiriyya dervishes. According to Idries Shah:

Ignorance of this background is responsible for much useless speculation about such entities as the Rosicrucians who merely repeated in their claims the possession of the ancient teaching which is contained in the parallel development called alchemy, and which was also announced by Friar Bacon [Francis Bacon], himself claimed as a Rosicrucian and alchemist and illuminate. The origins of all these societies in Sufism is the answer to the question as to which of them did Bacon belong, and what the secret doctrine really was. Much other Rosicrucian symbolism is Sufic.[36]

The origin of the Kabbalistic notions of the Rosicrucians in the Middle East are acknowledged in the Manifestos. As recounted in the Fama Fraternitatis, a mystic known as Christian Rosenkreutz supposedly founded the Rosy Cross brotherhood as early as the 1300s after studying in the Middle East under various masters. Rosenkreuz was said to have traveled to Egypt, and upon his return to Europe, to have established a secret “House of the Holy Spirit,” modeled on the Ismaili “House of Wisdom” in Cairo.[37] A hundred and twenty years after Rosenkreutz’ burial, the text relates, his vault was discovered by one of the brethren, which they took as a signal for them to declare themselves and invite the learned of Europe to join. As Christopher McIntosh explained, the image of the vault occurs in a book called the Aim of the Sage, which was circulated among the Brethren of Sincerity, who would have been active around the time that Christian Rosenkreutz was supposed to have made his journey to that region.[38]

The Rosicrucians would go on to form the Freemasons, and shape the legends of Scottish Rite Freemasonry, which purported that the Knights Templar had come into contact with certain “Eastern Mystics,” who are identified with the Brethren of Sincerity. This legend became the basis of the association of numerous prominent occultists of the late nineteenth century with a mysterious order known as the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, an important member of which was the pre-eminent Revivalist of the period, as well and a British agent and Grand Master of the Egyptian lodges, Jamal ud Din al Afghani (1838/1839 – 1897). Although he claimed to be an Afghan, Afghanai was a Shiah. Tellingly, Afghani and his Masonic brethren would refer to themselves as “ikhwan al saffa wa khullan al wafa,” in deliberate reference to the full name of original Brethren of Sincerity, who derived from Ismaili influences.[39 Additionally, on his many trips to India, Afghani, under the assumed name of Jamal Effendi, would visit the Agha Khan who was living there at the time.[40]

Jamal Afghani, in essence, is a prime example to help us understand how subsequent impostors like them, such as the Ayatollah Khomeini or Osama bin Laden, could expound so vociferously against “the West,” but at the same time being secretly in their service. In Afghani’s own words, as cited in Elie Kedourie, Afghani and Abduh: An Essay on Religious Unbelief and Political Activism in Modern Islam:

We do not cut off the head of religion except with the sword of religion. Therefore, if you were to see us now, you would see ascetics and worshipers, kneeling and genuflecting, never disobeying God’s commands and doing all that they are ordered to do.[41]

Afghani is recognized as the founder of the Salafi reform movement, whose mission was to call for the adaptation of Islam to modern times, by calling for a reopening of the Doors of Ijtihad. Through his influence were founded the Muslim Brotherhood, the primary arm of CIA interference in the Middle East, and his movement eventually merged with Wahhabism through the influence of another Freemason, Rashid Rida, such that the two are now largely indistinguishable.

What Bradley Manning’s Sentence Will Tell Us

By Michael Moore, Open Mike Blog

31 July 13

Today Bradley Manning was convicted on 20 of 22 counts, including violating the Espionage Act, releasing classified information and disobeying orders. That’s the bad news. The good news is he was found not guilty on the charge of “aiding the enemy.” That’s ’cause who he was aiding was us, the American people. And we’re not the enemy. Right?

Manning now faces a potential maximum sentence of 136 years in jail. When his sentence is announced tomorrow, we’ll all get a good idea of how seriously the U.S. military takes different crimes. When you hear about how long Manning – now 25 years old – will be in prison, compare it to sentences received by other soldiers:

Col. Thomas M. Pappas, the senior military intelligence officer at Abu Ghraib and the senior officer present the night of the murder of Iraqi prisoner Manadel al-Jamadi, received no jail time. But he was reprimanded and fined $8,000. (Pappas was heard to say about al-Jamadi, “I’m not going down for this alone.”)

Sgt. Sabrina Harman, the woman famously seen giving a thumbs-up next to al-Jamadi’s body and in another photo smiling next to naked, hooded Iraqis stacked on each other in Abu Ghraib, was sentenced to six months for maltreating detainees.

Spec. Armin Cruz was sentenced to eight months for abusing Iraqis at Abu Ghraib and covering up the abuse.

Spc. Steven Ribordy was sentenced to eight months for being accessory to the murder of four Iraqi prisoners who were “bound, blindfolded, shot and dumped in a canal” in Baghdad in 2007.

Spc. Belmor Ramos was sentenced to seven months for conspiracy to commit murder in the same case.

Sgt. Michael Leahy Jr. was sentenced to life in prison for committing the four Baghdad murders. The military then granted him clemency and reduced his sentence to 20 years, with parole possible after seven.

Marine Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich received no jail time for negligent dereliction in the massacre of 24 unarmed men, women and children in 2005 in the Iraqi town of Haditha. Seven other members of his battalion were charged but none were punished in any way.

Marine Lance Cpl. Jerry Shumate and Lance Cpl. Tyler Jackson were both sentenced to 21 monthsfor the aggravated assault of Hashim Ibrahim Awad, 52, a father of 11 and grandfather of four, in Al Hamdania in 2006. Awad died after being shot during the assault. Their sentences were later reduced.

Marine Lance Cpl. Robert Pennington was sentenced to eight years for the same incident, but served only a few months before being granted clemency and released from prison.

Marine Sgt. Lawrence G. Hutchins III was sentenced to 15 years for murder in the Awad case but his conviction was soon overturned and he was released.

No soldiers received any punishment for the killing of five Iraqi children, four women and two men inone Ishaqi home in 2006. Among the U.S. diplomatic cables leaked by Bradley Manning was email from a UN official stating that U.S. soldiers had “executed all of them.” When Wikileaks published the cable, the uproar in Iraq was so big that the Nouri al-Maliki government couldn’t grant any remaining U.S. troops immunity from prosecution in Iraqi courts, thus forcing the Obama administration to abandon its plans to keep several thousand U.S. soldiers in Iraq permanently. All U.S. troops were removed at the end of 2011.

My guess is Bradley Manning will spend more time in jail than all of the other soldiers in all of these cases put together. And thus, instead of redeeming ourselves and asking forgiveness for the crimes that Spc. Manning exposed, we will reaffirm to the world who we really are.
